Peter Huf Named City of Coatesville Fire Chief

The City of Coatesville announces the appointment of Peter Huf as the City’s new Fire Chief. After a detailed vetting process conducted by an advisory group comprising members of Civil Service, City administration, the Firefighters Union and City Council, Huf’s nomination was unanimously approved by City Council. He was sworn in on January 27 by Magisterial District Judge Hines, District Court 15-1-03.  Huf will lead the Coatesville Fire Department that consists of 26 full-time and part-time Fire Fighters and 32 Coatesville Volunteer Fire Fighters. He will also build on the Fire Department’s recent partnership with Washington Hose Company and its leadership.

“Mr. Huf brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position of Fire Chief,” says Coatesville City Council President Linda Lavender Norris. “We are excited about the new leadership and energy he brings to the City, and we look forward to building a long and successful relationship.”

Huf draws on 37 years of experience as a firefighter, both volunteer and career, with the Upper Darby Township Fire Department, where he served as Deputy Fire Chief for 10 years. During that time, he received the Mayor’s Award of Excellence for extraordinary actions that serve the community. Huf holds top-level certifications as a firefighter including the highest level of Fire Officer training – Fire Officer IV National Certification. He is qualified as a fire instructor and inspector, and for handling hazardous materials, protective equipment, decontamination and more. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and pre-med from Villanova University and an Associate degree from Mercer County Community College. Huf has three sons and 5 grandchildren.

“I’m grateful to City Council, City Manager James Logan, and the City’s administration to have provided this opportunity to serve the City of Coatesville,” says Huf, who began the onboarding process this week. “I felt welcomed during my first week on the job, and I look forward to building a strong alliance with the firefighters and earning the trust of our residents.”

Huf is the successor to Fire Chief Steve Dobson, who retired in early January.
