WCCCC held the 24th Annual Municipal Update Luncheon this November at G.A. Vietri, Inc. in Coatesville.
The event, presented by Pennsylvania American Water, was our biggest yet, with municipal leaders, community advocates, business owners, and elected officials in attendance.
The Modena Borough update was provided by Jennifer Daywalt.
- Reopened Woodland Avenue, which had been closed since the hurricane. This was achieved by receiving $1.4 million from the county through two CRP grants.
- Received funding for firehouse and equipment. The borough is in the process of building a tanker for the firehouse, which should be completed by the beginning of winter.
- The borough was awarded two other grants for the firehouse as well, including $450,000 for the purchase of two ambulances.
- Received $93,000 for EMS gear.
- Received $2.7 million grant from FEMA to do a “Tear Down, Rebuild” project of 10 rowhomes that were destroyed in the hurricane. This will allow about 50 people back in community.
- The borough is working with property owners on Union Street to get industrial field back up.
- Working with Cleveland-Cliffs for a piece of property around the Mode House, the original paper mill. Cleveland-Cliffs will be donating land to the borough. They are trying to fundraise $50,000.
- The plan is to rebuild the historic home into the borough hall and community center. The property will feature 9 acres of land with walking trails, fenced in dog park, and more.
