In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, a group of small businesses joined resources to support the Lord’s Pantry of Downingtown.
Organized by Karl Klingmann II of Penn Rise Advisors, the group donated $5,500 to be used to purchase food through Crop’s Fresh Market at their discounted rates. “As a small business owner, it’s important to me to give back to the community where I operate and live. On Giving Tuesday, I felt compelled to do my part and on a whim, called upon my network to open their wallets and provide funds and resources to the Lord’s Pantry. I was extremely humbled to keep getting yes’s with almost every request and within 24 hours, raised $5,500. This is a testament to our area’s strong small business community. Each of the businesses who donated strives to have a positive impact on their community. I had an idea and these businesses made it happen.” The businesses who participated are ACS Services, ACR Machine, Crop’s Fresh Market, Downingtown Collision, Electrical Plus, First Resource Bank, Hopewell Pharmacy, Penn Rise Advisors, Joe Burns Beverage and The Wright Agency.
Crop’s Fresh Market was the first business solicited and immediately agreed to participate by using their funds and resources to provide food. “It’s important to us at Crop’s to work with other businesses and support non-profits that have a direct impact in our community. We’ve worked with the Lord’s Pantry through our food donation program so we were quick to get on board with this effort,” notes Chad Cropper. The Lord’s Pantry of Downingtown operates under the belief that no one should suffer from hunger. They are the only food pantry in Downingtown and provide food assistance to eligible Downingtown area residences, along with services to enhance quality of life. “During this Covid year we wouldn’t be able to operate without the support of the business community. These funds will go far as well as the buying resources Crop’s is providing. It’s a challenge for us to order what we need since availability shifts. Having Crop’s as a partner will be very helpful,” explains Jan Leaf, executive director of Lord’s Pantry of Downingtown. This combined effort illustrates the power and dedication small businesses have in their communities and their impact on charitable organizations like the Lord’s Pantry.
